My Sunshine After the Rain
Good evening bloggers!
My name is Bethany, and I am a 20 year old (soon to be 21!) senior at a small rural college in West Virginia. As an undergrad senior. I have finally mastered the art of procrastination. Any time I'm really putting off an assignment, my iTunes library is typically the first place I go. I can do anything from make a playlist, delete songs, and download some new ones. With over 3,000 songs, this gives me more than enough excuses to put off doing what I'm supposed to.
Here's the irony:
Blogging is one of my favorite things to do. I love writing, and reading them. So when I was told to blog for a grade as opposed to turning in a second news story, I was thrilled! I could write about anything and recieve a grade, awesome, right? So how on earth do I pick a topic? Something people actually want to read? Thats a tough one.
Scooby Doo? Too childish. College life? Too common and boring. Relationship Do's and Don'ts? Too limited. Music? Too broad.
Wait a minute... what about my music?
Scrolling through my iTunes library this evening while avoiding a journal critique, I realised that I had a huge variety of music. Has anybody ever seen AC/DC and Disney's The Lion King Soundtrack on the same playlist? Oh yeah, that's this guy right here.
So it was decided. Every Wednesday around 11pm and earlier, I will be giving you samples from my iTunes, including the good, the bad, and the "why the humbug do I have this on here?"
I hope you enjoy this task as much as I do, because cleaning out my music, and double-checking my sanity on some of these choices is truly one of my favorite things to do.
To get started:
98 Degrees- It's All Because of You
I know your first reaction is: 98 Degrees, really? When is the last time they had a hit, 1999? Unfortunately, you'd only be off by a year. With only four albums total, one of them being a Christmas special, their success paled in comparison to that of The Backstreet Boys and N'SYNC. The boys had their last full album, Revelation, sold in 2000, and a final tour through Japan in 2001. After that, second tenor Nick Lachey attempted to go solo, without much success. They never reunited after that, throughouly enjoying their break and benefits from boy band life.
The song Its All Because of You, has that typical boy-bandish feel to it. The song is off the album entitled "98 Degrees and Rising" from 1998, I know, it's a real throwback. The boys sing in unison about a girl who has fit their perfect match in every possible way. Apparently, she keeps them awake at night when she isn't around, and she is also their "sunshine after the rain..." Gag me now please. Yes at one point in time I was a lovesick teenager with posters of Justin Timberlake, Nick Carter, and Nick Lachey plastered on my ceiling. That was, oh lets say 9 years ago. Lets pose this questions: WHY IS THIS ON MY iTUNES?! Apple was around sure, but iPods didn't make their debut until years later, and neither did iTunes.
My only excuse I guess is that I got hit with a blast of nostalgia for the days before I had a boyfriend, a major, and a pending grad school application. But hey, who doesn't? I'm thinking I'll keep it for now, in the hopes it can bring me back to the happier, simpler, more carefree days of, like, grade school...
Till next week-
keep jammin'.
